Lily Peters
CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The jury trial for the teen accused of killing Lily Peters has been scheduled for late 2026.
Court records show a last-minute scheduling order was executed on Friday, with Judge Steven Gibbs scheduling a ten-day jury trial for 17-year-old Carson Peters-Berger from November 2nd through the 13th, 2026. Though it remains unclear if the trial will be held in Chippewa County.
We do know that the jury pool will come from outside Chippewa County. Judge Gibbs made that ruling in August, noting extensive media coverage and support for the Peters family during the time that the 10-year-old was missing.
Gibbs is expected to rule on the change of venue request at a later date.
Investigators say Peters-Berger was escorting Lily home after she spent the day with her aunt in the spring of 2022. He told police he encouraged her to “go exploring” in a wooded area, then beat her with a stick and punched her numerous times, leaving her body in the area and returning home. He’s also accused of sexually assaulting her.
Peters-Berger was 14 at the time, but is being tried in adult court due to the violent nature of the crime. His defense team appealed to have the case moved to the juvenile system, but that was tossed out.
Further hearing dates are scheduled for December 2, June 16, and August 26. The court has set aside two days in late October for jury selection
