ROSEMONT, IL (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s basketball team is picked 7th in the unofficial Big Ten Preseason Media poll.
Coach Greg Gard’s club received 328 ballot points, putting them just behind Michigan State and Oregon. Guard John Blackwell was also named preseason all-conference second team.
Purdue received 25 first-place votes to run away with the top spot in the rankings. Michigan earned three first-place votes and sits second.
The Boilermaker’s Braden Smith was named the unanimous preseason player of the year.
Wisconsin opens the regular season on Monday, November 3rd, at home against the Campbell University Camels out of the Southern Conference. They will also have a pair of exhibition games in late October against Oklahoma (in Milwaukee) and UW-Platteville.
