CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The teenage boy accused of killing Lily Peters two years ago returned to a Chippewa Falls courtroom on Tuesday.
Records show the defendant, known as CPB due to his age, stood mute before a judge who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. The boy also waived his right to a speedy trial.
Investigators say the 16-year-old beat Peters, who was 10, with a stick then strangled her and sexually assaulted her. He returned home but came back and attempted to hide her body when he learned the police were looking for her.
The case is proceeding in adult court after an appeal to move the case to the juvenile system was denied earlier this year. The boy’s defense team had argued that he would get the help he needed in the juvenile system. But both a circuit court and appeals court threw that argument out, saying it would diminish the seriousness of the crime.
CPB is facing charges of intentional homicide and sexual assault. A motion hearing has been scheduled for April 30th. No trial dates have been set. A change of venue for the case is possible.
