Bed shaker project (WAOW)
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Two Wausau School District students, Aeryn and Elise Wetzsteon, have raised $11,100 to equip all Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students with specialized SafeAwake bed shaker devices. These devices alert users to smoke alarms through vibrations and flashing lights.
On February 17, they hosted a celebration at Riverview Elementary School, demonstrating the devices and distributing them to 26 students. The initiative ensures that students are alerted during a fire, even if they cannot hear standard alarms.
The Wausau School District expressed pride in Aeryn and Elise for their impactful project. Their efforts were supported by sponsors including the Wausau Fire Department, Emily’s Path, ENT & Allergy Associates, Eagles Nest Family Restaurant, and numerous individual donors.
Aeryn and Elise are also working toward their Girl Scout Silver Award, the second-highest honor in Girl Scouts.
