WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man facing numerous felony charges after a report of a bar fight led to the discovery of child porn has reached a plea deal with the state.
Seth Menting was in a Marathon County courtroom where he entered a no contest plea for seven of the 12 counts against him, including five counts for possession of child pornography and an amended charge of first-degree reckless injury, which was pleaded down from first-degree attempted homicide.
Five counts of possession of child pornography were dismissed, but read into the record as part of the deal.
The 34-year-old stabbed a man multiple times during a bar fight on the west side of Wausau. He then fled the scene as other patrons applied first aid to the victim, discarding the knife along the Wisconsin River between Wausau and Rib Mountain.
When officers caught up to him, they discovered child porn on his devices.
Menting had been facing an automatic life sentence for the attempted homicide count alone. Each charge for possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 13th, with a presentence investigation to be completed in 45 days. Menting is being held at the New Lisbon Correctional Institute in Juneau County.
