MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Thursday, the Wisconsin Assembly passed a bipartisan measure to ensure the safety of children
The “PRINCE Act” aims to address gaps in current requirements for Amber Alerts.
The bill is named after Prince McCree, who was reported missing last October. After an Amber Alert requested by Milwaukee police was never issued, the five-year-old boy’s body was found in a Milwaukee dumpster a day later.
The new alert would go out for children who cannot return home without help, or if the child is younger than 10.
“When their safety is in danger, our children deserve to be searched for as immediately and as thoroughly as possible,” said state representative Sheila Stubbs of Madison.
The bill was also inspired by the 2022 disappearance of 10-year-old Lily Peters, who went missing in Chippewa Falls and was later found dead.
After receiving prior approval by the Wisconsin Senate, the bill now goes to Governor Tony Evers’ desk.
