WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau now has the same ordinance as Weston and Schofield designed to help stop prostitution.  The ordinance requiring escort services to have a license passed the city council with little discussion.

The new law forces people accepting payment for companionship or stripteasees to have the $500 dollar license or face fines of between $2,000 and $5,000 per occurrence if caught soliciting their services without one.

The ordinance gives police an additional tool, since they can build a case and prosecute offenders easier this way than by filing regular prostitution charges.

Area law enforcement officials have conducted 10 arrests this year by tracking solicitors and clients of online advertising, such as found on Backpage.com and Craigslist.
