MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A group opposing Common Core curriculum is warning that the education standards are already being implemented in many schools across Central Wisconsin.
Mary Carney says the group “Concerned Citizens of Central Wisconsin” is calling on lawmakers to attend a forum in Marshfield on Wednesday. “It’s already being implemented to varying degrees,” Carney says. “Here in Marshfield, the school board in December just approved the Common Core curriculum.” She added that, “I think the longer that Common Core is implemented, the more difficult it will be to extract it from our schools.”
According to Carney, lawmakers, parents, and teachers are being invited to hear featured speaker Dr. Duke Pesta, a nationally-known opponent of Common Core. That forum is open to the public free of charge and starts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Marshfield’s Holiday Inn and Conference Center.
