WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Democratic candidate for Governor Mary Burke spoke to student veterans in Wausau Thursday.

She met with the military men and women that are now students at Northcentral Technical College and UW-Marathon County. She campaigned and said it’s important to remember the service our veterans have given our country, and we need to do a better job of helping them transition back into the civilian workforce. Burke said the transition from soldier to civilian can be difficult, and going back to school can be a good option for many veterans.

Burke was able to discuss some of the issues these vets are having with getting Veterans Administration and other benefits they deserve, and the issues around balancing school, work, and home life. Burke believes Wisconsin’s Department of Veterans Affairs could be doing more to help.
