TOWN OF WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Firefighters spent the night at the scene of a house fire outside Wausau's city limits at 7704 State Highway 52. They fought flames and a late-season snow -- and had to use tankers to truck in water.Firefighter Kyle Borchardt says there was heavy smoke coming from the back of the house when firefighters arrived. He says the home suffered substantial damage. “We had a house fire on the second level. Had a lot of fire damage and smoke and water damage to the lower level as well.”
Borchardt says the two people inside escaped without injury.
He says the upper level of the two-story house is badly damaged, but they might be able to save the lower level. “Older style house, but remodelled within the last couple of years, and it got up in the attic and stuff, and in the walls, and we had a little bit of a hard time with that, but we got her put out.”
Firefighters don’t yet know the cause of the fire. “That’s undetermined. We’ve got to come back and do an investigation, probably in the morning, try to figure out a cause and see what we can all find.”
There was a garage fire yesterday afternoon on the 800 block of Henrietta Street in Wausau. It started inside the engine compartment of a pick-up truck that was parked inside.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby house. The truck is a total loss. The garage was heavily damaged.
