RHINELANDER, Wis. (WXPR) -- A crowd could hear what sounded like tear gas canisters being discharged during an incident in Rhinelander Tuesday night.
The incident was in the 600 block of Pelican Street, and lasted for over five hours. Oneida County's SWAT team was trying to talk a man out of a residence from the afternoon hours until well after dark. The team asked the man to exit the home numerous times.
At dark, the SWAT team positioned their vehicle. Over an intercom, the team again asked the man to come out peacefully. The scene ended quietly, and witnesses say no shots were heard.
As of midnight, neither Rhinelander Police or the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department has commented on the incident.
