TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAU) -- Two people are hospitalized after a head-on crash near Tomahawk Monday, and investigators are looking for a third driver.
The crash happened at about 3:30 in the afternoon on Lincoln County Highway A about a mile north of Highway U. There were three vehicles involved. Deputies say two were northbound and one was southbound, and a witness claims a northbound vehicle swerved onto the shoulder, possibly to avoid colliding with the southbound vehicle. The investigators are asking the northbound driver that escaped the collision to contact the sheriff’s department to help in the investigation.
Both drivers in the crash were alone in their vehicles. One had to be extracated from their vehicle. Both were flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield with critical injuries.
Names have not been released. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The northbound driver that escaped the collision should contact Lincoln County deputies at 715-536-6272 or 715-453-5747.
Deputies were assisted at the crash scene by Wisconsin State Patrol’s reconstruction team, Tomahawk police and fire departments, and emergency medical technicians from Lincoln and Oneida counties.
