Loggers Drop Woodchucks & Rest Of NWL Scores

Wausau, WIS – The Wisconsin Woodchucks tried to rally against the La Crosse Loggers, but the Loggers’ bullpen closed the door winning 3-2.

The Woodchucks (16-10) were the first team to bring a run home in the bottom of the fifth inning when Nate Mondou came into score on a double off the wall from Troy Traxler. Traxler came into the game in the third inning after Tyler Stieb injured his shoulder on a fantastic catch keeping the game scoreless.

However, the Loggers (19-8) had an answer in their next at-bats when Nash Knight came into score on an Austin Orewiler wild pitch. Orewiler’s inability to throw strikes continued as he allowed two straight batters to reach base on free passes. Ryne Birk brought both of those runners in when he hit a line drive to left field bringing in Aaron Knapp and Austin Rei giving the Loggers a 3-1 lead.

Paul DeJong cut the lead to one in the bottom of the sixth inning when he hit a home run over the left-center field fence. However, DeJong would be the only Woodchuck to reach base against the Loggers’ effective bullpen. Breckin Williams came on in the ninth inning against the heart of the Woodchucks’ order and went three up, three down earning his eighth save of the season.

The Woodchucks will be on the road for the next two nights as they travel to Warner Park to take on the Madison Mallards.  You can hear the game on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9 at 6:45. The Woodchucks will return to Athletic Park on Thursday when the Kalamazoo Growlers come to Wausau. First pitch on Thursday will be at 7:05.
