GRAND CHUTE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The state high school baseball tournament is almost back on schedule, after a rain delay of over five hours yesterday near Appleton. Semi-finals in three divisions ran past midnight.
A Division-Two semi was delayed until eight this morning, when Ripon takes on Viroqua. That winner will play Jefferson for the state title late this afternoon. Jefferson advanced to its first championship game since 1994, with an 11-nothing win over Green Bay Notre Dame. Heath Renz tossed a one-hitter, striking out ten.
In Division-Three, defending champion Oconto will play Wisconsin Heights for their state crown today. Oconto edged Racine Saint Catherine's 5-to-4 in eight innings, on an R-B-I single from Tanner Pillsbury. Wisconsin Heights eliminated Mondovi 3-2. Marcus Caminiti tossed a two-hitter for the winners.
In Division-Four, unbeaten Lake Country Lutheran will face Chippewa Falls McDonell for the state title this morning. Lutheran advanced with a 13-to-2 semi-final victory. McDonell stole 10 bases en route to a 14-4 win over Ithaca.
The D-1 Title game has Sun Prairie facing Kimberly.
The WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament begins today at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. 3 Central Wisconsin teams are in action. Rapids Assumption will face Lake Country Lutheran this afternoon at 2 in a D-3 matchup. Rhinelander also plays at 2 in a D-2 game vs Waunakee. DC Everest plays tonight in D-1 against Kettle Moraine
