IRMA, Wis. (WSAU) --
A mechanical problem is the likely cause of a crash involving a car and a semi truck in Lincoln County Tuesday afternoon. The crash happened at 2:45 p.m.
Sheriff’s Department investigators say the truck was hauling sand and traveling westbound on Highway K when it traveled through the intersection of Highway 51, where the car ran into it.
The two people in the car and the driver of the semi truck do not have life-threatening injuries, but the occupants of the car were taken by ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment. Their names and medical conditions have not been released. The truck driver refused treatment.
The crash remains under investigation.
The southbound lanes of Highway 51 had to be closed for a few hours due to the wreckage and the spilled sand. Highway 51 traffic was detoured as emergency personnel assisted the three people and cleared the scene.
Lincoln County deputies were assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol, Merrill EMS, the Town of Russell Fire Department, and the Lincoln County Highway Department
