ROME, Wis (WSAU) The Town Board is Rome is asking the DNR to deny the permits for a proposed mega-dairy in nearby Saratoga. The Golden Sands Dairy, owned by Wysocki Family Farms, would have more than 5,300 cows on about 6,000 acres of land. Since the farm would be classified as a concentrated animal feeding operation, it needs DNR approval.
Rome officials say the farm would have a negative impact on property values. They're concerned about manure spreading and the impact on water levels from 49 high capacity wells.
The Town of Saratoga has also been opposed to the project.
It's unclear when the DNR will make a decision on the permits.
