Governor Walker calls for repeal of Common Core Standards in schools

MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Governor Scott Walker has given the next session of the Legislature a big request.

Wisconsin’s Governor issued what may be his shortest ever statement.  It was a single sentence saying, “Today, I call on the members of the State Legislature to pass a bill in early January to repeal Common Core and replace it with standards set by people in Wisconsin.”

Walker has tried before to encourage the Legislature to drop the standards.

Common Core Standards are supposed to bring uniformity to schools nationwide, but critics argue some of the standards are inappropriate and other critics say the national standards are not high enough.

Several states are looking at repealing Common Core standards. Governors in Indiana, South Carolina and Oklahoma have already signed legislation to repeal them.
