Four arrested in Portage County theft ring

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Police have busted a suspected theft ring in Portage County.

Police have filed charges against three people after they were caught leaving the Plover Wal-Mart with stolen goods. 41-year-old Chad Wampole, 34-year-old Leah Luedtke, 21-year-old Jahn Tinglum and 34-year-old Shawnya Goetz were charged this week for felony counts of retail theft and possession of meth.

Police say the four were arrested were arrested February 4 after Wal-Mart employees spotted them leaving the store with a full cart. The store had already suspected them of previous thefts.

Officers caught up with the vehicle and questioned the suspects. Police say the four lied to officers repeatedly during the stop, claiming they didn't know each other and giving false names to police.

All four have court dates scheduled in March.
