ELDERON, Wis. (WSAU) -- County Materials is facing serious OSHA violations and fines after an incident where an employee's foot was severed in an accident.
OSHA filed a report today that showed 18 serious violations after an investigation that started when a truck driver had his leg crushed and foot severed in an industrial accident at a job site in Elderon. The agency has fined County $56,700 for violations that stem from improper safety procedures and unsafe work standards when placing precast concrete.
An investigation show that the truck driver was injured after a cable trolley broke and pinned his leg against concrete. This is not a new situation for the company according to officials. OSHA spokesman Scott Allen says County has already received 8 citations for unsafe worksafe conditions since 2001. "This is just unacceptable behavior for any company to have these type of violations. It's imperative for any company to ensure that work environments for all workers are safer."
County Materials will now have to decide how to proceed. "The company has been provided with a copy of the citation. They have 15 days to request an informal hearing with OSHA to discuss a settlement, and hopefully they will correct it quickly and make sure the environment is safe for all the workers."
Company officials did not return calls for comment.
