Amery police chief to keep his job after OWI citation

AMERY, Wis. (WSAU) -- A western Wisconsin police chief caught drunk driving will keep his job.

City officials announced on Wednesday that chief Thomas Marson will be suspended for two weeks without pay after being arrested for OWI. They also said Marson could be immediately fired if he violates any more laws.

According to police, Marson was arrested February 16 after he slid his car into the ditch. When officers arrived, he claimed it was because of slippery roads, but Marson failed two OWI tests and then blew a .156 BAC, nearly twice the legal limit.

Marson has pleaded guilty to first time OWI and had his license suspended for six months.

The city council says Marson has done excellent work as chief for 11 years, and believes the arrest won't impact his work with the city in the future.
