MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A man was struck and killed by a train in Marshfield Tuesday night. He's now been identified as 62-year-old Melvin G. Weis.
Marshfield Police Sergeant Patrick Zeps says they received the call at about 9:40 p.m. “We responded to a complaint of a male that was struck by a train at the intersection of Vine and Veterans, and upon arrival, we did find a male that was deceased.”
Zeps says the death is still under investigation. Police believe the victim slipped and fell in front of the oncoming train and was unable to get out of the way in time.
Investigators don’t know why the man was on the railroad tracks. He may have been going to a convenience store across the street.
