PITTSVILLE, Wis. (WSAU) -- A levee has failed at a popular fishing lake in southeast Clark County. The Department of Natural Resources has ordered an immediate drawdown of Sherwood Lake west of Pittsville because of the levee failure.
Clark County Forestry and Parks officials are managing the drawdown. All access to the lake has been blocked, and people are being told not to go on the lake for any reason because of unsafe ice conditions.
Sherwood Lake is a shallow lake with a lot of vegetation, and produces a large number of good sized panfish like bluegills and bass. The maximum depth is 9 feet.
Officials are not sure how long the drawdown will take, or when the levee may be repaired.
