WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- It’s now more difficult for Wood County department heads and elected officials to negotiate contracts or obtain property. The county board voted Tuesday 14-4 to implement new rules requiring any county board member, employee, or committee to have the approval of the full county board before entering into a contract.
Several board members questioned the Health and Human Services Committee’s decision last year to have the Health Department negotiate a long-term lease for space at Riverview Medical Center. They found there were really no guidelines for determining who deals with contracts.
The new Wood County guidelines still allow contracts allowed under state statute, such as highway commissioners acquiring property for specific use. Now, the county board can enter contracts or authorize specific people to do so by county board resolution.
