Senate passes stricter accountability guidelines for schools

by

MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The State Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would provide performance report cards for all publicly funded schools.

Some of the supporters criticized the bill for taking out stricter accountability guidelines from an earlier version of the bill. Others including Democrat John Lehman of Racine were disappointed because the bill takes out the consequences for districts that don’t meet guidelines. Republican Luther Olsen disagreed, saying this forces students at voucher schools to take the same tests and have those scores reported to the state, just like other schools.

The bill passed 29-3 and still needs action in the Assembly.
