Medford woman pleads not guilty to animal cruelty charges

by

MEDFORD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A Medford woman is free on a signature bond after being charged with animal cruelty. 29-year-old Callie Neuman is accused of leaving her Great Dane and two cats unattended in a house after she moved in with her boyfriend. Neuman says she was providing food and water for the animals, but the house was covered with garbage, feces, and urine and is now unsuitable for living in.

Neuman entered a not-guilty plea to the charges. Judge Ann Knox-Bauer set a $500 dollar signature bond and ordered Neuman to appear in court for a pre-trial conference March 19th.

The animals are doing fine, but the veterinarian says the big dog was slightly underweight.

If convicted, Neuman could spend over two years in prison.
