MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) -- Merrill's city council will discuss and vote tomorrow on creating a full time building inspector and zoning administrator position.
The common council will vote Tuesday night on the proposal. The job is not currently a position the city has on staff, and administrator Dave Johnson says that's something they'd like to change. "It's been a contract now for several years, but we feel we can get better service for the community by having somebody who is available in the office and able to go into the field during the regular work day."
While the city hasn't had a problem with their current contractee, Johnson says there are definite advantages to having a person on staff. "Just the fact we have them available to us all the time, rather than them spending time with other clients in the same time period that we may want them."
Johnson says city council members are on board. "I've had several of them tell me that they think it's time that we made this a full time position, and I have not had anyone speak to me personally in opposition."
The committee of the whole will discuss the measure at 6 pm and the common council will vote on it at 7 pm.
