WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Governor Scott Walker has approved emergency measures related to the implementation of the Deer Trustee report by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
The rules will implement the primary proposals in the deer trustee report. That includes the elimination of the Deer Management Units in favor of county based management, putting together local advisory committees in each county to help evaluate herds for the DNR and the elimination of in person deer registration
In a press release, Governor Walker said that these rule changes will take the right approach to conservation and natural resource management so that Wisconsin’s traditions of deer hunting will continue to thrive for generations.
Walker made the announcement during a convention in Weston. The changes will be implemented for the start of the 2014 gun deer season.
