STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- As we deal with ice and snow, SentryWorld is preparing for golf season. The Stevens Point golf destination has released the course map showing changes made this past summer.
SentryWorld was closed for the entire summer of 2013 for remodeling. They have enhanced some of the existing features, and added some challenging new features. Construction on the course was completed before the snow arrived, but spokesperson Stephanie Smith says the course will not reopen until mid 2014.
There are two reasons for the midsummer grand reopening. First, golf course officials want the new turf to become fully rooted and established, so it will hold up to the traffic. Second, the SentryWorld sports complex housing the pro shop, restaurant, and multipurpose rooms is also going through a complete upgrade. The building and the course will reopen together.
Robert Trent Jones, Jr. is SentryWorld’s original course architect who also oversaw the renovation. He says, “They’ll recognize the same corridors that they played. It will be familiar, but a new experience.” Holes number 3 and 12 are new par-three holes built on property previously unused. Holes 4, 9, 13 and 17 are built on existing corridors, but substantially altered.
