MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Wisconsin Badgers defeated top ranked Minnesota Thursday night 2-1 at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers were looking to recover from a rough weekend at Michigan, and picked up a big win on home ice, where they had been 13-2-1 going into the contest against the Gophers.
Frankie Simonelli scored the first goal of the game for Wisconsin in the first period, but Minnesota answered, leaving them tied at the first intermission.
The second period was scoreless. The game winning goal happened at 13:47 in the third period when Jed Soloway fed the puck to Jake McCabe for the goal.
Joel Rumpel had 31 saves in goal for the Badgers. The Gopher’s Adam Wilcox stopped 17 shots. Wisconsin was 1-1 in power plays, and Minnesota failed to get a goal in four power play opportunities.
The puck drops for these two teams again Friday night at the Kohl Center. Pregame activities start at 7:30 on WSAU 550 AM and 99.9 FM.
