Mukwonago to keep new mascot despite new law

MUKWONAGO, Wis. (WSAU) -- Mukwonago High School will join other Wisconsin high schools that will not bring back their Native American mascots despite legal battles and new laws in favor of defending it.

Mukwonago district superintendent Shawn McNulty says that students seem satisfied with a "fast M" logo the school created during the controversy. The fight over Native American mascots led to bitter feelings, with many claiming the names were racist.

School officials and alumni helped push through the new law making it harder to force schools to drop tribal names in December.
