"Wall that Heals" coming to Highground

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WSAU) -- Veterans from Central Wisconsin are being invited to take a special “Veterans Bus” to see a first-time-anywhere exhibit that opens soon at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park near Neillsville. Events coordinator Theresa Hebert says on August 14th a free motor-coach will be departing from Wausau, carrying vets to see three traveling memorial walls that will be on simultaneous display. Hebert says, “This is an unprecedented event where we have the three memorial walls at The Highground. They’ve never been together together before, anywhere.” Besides just providing transportation, Hebert says the bus trip is also is meant to provide some fellowship. “It is so much easier,” she said, “for veterans to just feel more comfortable discussing things that have been on their minds for so many decades, when they’re in the presence of other veterans.” On display will be the traveling Vietnam War Memorial “Wall that Heals”; “The Wall of Remembrance” which is making its first-ever appearance in Wisconsin to honor those who died on 9/11 and in the ensuing wars in the Middle East; and “The Canadian Vietnam Memorial Wall”. All three walls will be on display at The Highground from August 13 through the 17th. The trip is being funded through donations from area veterans groups, but space is limited so veterans are being urged to sign-up for that bus trip today by calling the Wausau Vet Center at 715-842-1724.
