Construction moving along at Central Wisconsin Airport

MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) -- Central Wisconsin Airport construction is progressing on schedule. That’s according to Airport Director Tony Yaron.  “We’re looking at meeting a deadline of around the end of August for completion of our east terminal addition, and I think that they’re going to be able to meet that time.”

The airport at Mosinee has been in the second big phase of construction, with their new east wing. The west wing was completed last year. Yaron says the final section is the middle of the existing terminal.  “We’re looking at moving forward with the center build portion, which would be the last of the three phases for the remodelling of our terminal. I would expect that the first of September or shortly thereafter, we’d be able to get the notice to proceed on that part of the building.”

The new east wing will include additional baggage handling equipment. Yaron says the third phase in the center of the airport will have some inconvenience at times, with security operations working from elsewhere.  “There may be some outside routing for pedestrian traffic temporarily, but we’re going to try to keep that more towards the milder times of the year, and we’re going to be moving our security screening checkpoint into the concourse temporarily so that we can get into that center portion, do the demolition, and have a more efficient operation and a more efficient build.”

On a different topic, Yaron says the just-completed EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh didn’t have much of an impact on CWA. He says most of the overflow traffic to and from the show uses other airports in the Fox valley.  “We’re far away from Oshkosh in order not to get any of that traffic, but we’re close enough yet too, so that if a pilot has enough gas in his tank, he’s going to overfly us from the north or northwest and straight on to Oshkosh, and make it there just fine.”
