Lincoln County traffic stop leads to drug arrests

MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) -- Four people were arrested Saturday night after a traffic stop turned into a drug bust.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department deputies pulled a vehicle over on North Sales Street in Merrill for a equipment violation. The deputy became suspicious of possible drug use, and called for help from a Marathon County K9 unit. The dog indicated the smell of drugs, and officers then found paraphernalia, an empty package, and a syringe tucked into the sock of a 17-year-old Merrill man.

When a deputy was searching a 20-year-old Merrill passenger, his methamphetamine pipe fell out of his pocket.

The 23-year-old woman driving the vehicle admitted to consuming meth about two hours before the traffic stop. She may face operating under the influence charges based on the outcome of blood tests.

A fourth passenger was arrested. He was a 29-year-old man charged with violating his bond by being in the presence of others using or possessing drugs.

The 17-year-old posted bond over the weekend. The others have bond hearings Monday.

Names were not released by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
