MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) -- The first day of a Lincoln County murder trial is complete.
50-year-old Mark Bucki is on trial for the death of his 48-year-old wife Anita. Jury selection began Monday morning with about 90 possible jurors, and they settled on eight men and seven women with a wide range of ages to serve as the 12 jurors and three alternates.
It took until after 3 o’clock before the two sides could begin opening statements in the case. The first of nearly 80 witnesses will take the stand Tuesday morning.
Investigators believe Mark strangled Anita and hid her body in a Taylor County swamp. They also believe Mark was seeing another woman, and stood to gain 150-thousand dollars in life insurance benefits.
The jury is sequestered in a Merrill hotel, unable to have access to any media reports.
