UNDATED (WSAU) Eight municipalities in the Wausau area have reached agreements with the Marathon County Humane Society to handle stray cats. They are Wausau, Schofield, the town and village of Weston, Rothschild, Kronenwetter, Rib Mountain, and Franzen. Last year the county board voted to fund only stray dogs, leaving individual communities to handle stray cats on their own.
The terms of the agreements vary by community. Wausau's agreement says stray cats can be dropped off only by police. There's a quota, where the city would be charged $220 per animal if more than 150 stray cats are found. Rib Mountain residents are alloed to drop off strays, but they need ID as proof of residence.
The stray cat contract runs through the end of the year.
