ST. PAUL, MN (WSAU) - The man accused of killing his wife will not testify in the trial. 39-year-old Jeffrey Trevino did not take the witness stand to defend himself, as some had predicted.
The defense cross examined the last expert from the prosecution Monday morning, and they were scheduled to proceed with their own witnesses. They did not. The defense rested without calling one witness. All the defense did was ask for dismissal, saying the circumstantial evidence couldn’t prove Kira Steger was killed by their client, in the home, or even in Ramsey County Minnesota.
Testimony is done, but closing arguments will be made Tuesday morning starting at 9:00 a.m.
Kira Steger’s body was found in the Mississippi River about two months after she disappeared last winter. The D.C. Everest graduate was planning on leaving Trevino, and prosecutors believe this triggered him to murder his wife.
