MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) Marshfield city leaders are planning two antlerless deer hunts within the city limits. One will be December 7-21. The second will be January 4-26. Many residents say the deer population is up sharply, leading to concerns about car accidents and property damage.
The number of complaints from city residents about deer eating shrubs and flowers has risen in recent months. Marshfield didn't have a hunt within city limits last year. The did hold one in 2011.
The hunt will be limited to bow-hunters only, and there will be special meetings in October for city leaders to outline the hunting rules with potential participants. The dates for those meetings will be announced shortly.
