Thimm sentenced for stabbing mom & her boyfriend

by

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) - A Rhinelander teenager has been sentenced for stabbing two people last December. 17-year-old Michael Thimm is not going to see as much jail time as you might expect. Judge Patrick O’Melia only gave him five months in the Oneida County Jail and four years of probation. The judge said prison would be counterproductive, noting Thimm has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a form of Autism.

Thimm stabbed his mother and her boyfriend after an argument about computer use. Judge O’Melia felt it would be more appropriate to make sure Thimm gets the help he needs.

People with Asperger’s Syndrome often have problems with common social skills. They can also exhibit unusual or repetitive behaviors, display unusual nonverbal communications, and have long one-sided conversations without noticing they are talking to themselves.
