UNDATED (WSAU) A Weston man is under arrest after breaking into dozens of storage units in a crime spree over the last six months. 36-year-old Cory Ellis tried to pawn most of the items he'd stolen.
Police reports say he broke into a storage unit in March and took more than $40,000 worth of tools, yard equipment, electronics, and clothing. A police report says a family member noticed one item - a stolen stereo speaker - at Pawn America. The Pawn Shop was able to trace the item back to Ellis and notify police.
Everest-Metro police say Ellis was already in custody in Shawano County when the stolen items were traced to him there. He'd also been accused of breaking into more storage units in other counties.
Ellis is also suspected of stealing two vehicles from one of the Koucourek car lots, and stealing two license plates off of parked cars in Rib Mountain.
Ellis has admitted to break-ins in Lincoln, Wood, Langlade, Clark and Portage Counties. He told police he'd trade most of the stolen items with drug dealers to support his meth habit.
