STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Portage County will choose a new Sheriff in 2014. Current Sheriff John Charewicz has announced he will retire at the end of his third term in a little over a year.

Charewicz became the department’s top cop as a write-in candidate in 2002. He is now 65-years-old.

So far, two candidates have announced their intention to run for Sheriff. They are Portage County Corrections Officer Robert Golla and Portage County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Sorenson. Sorenson just announced his candidacy last Saturday on the courthouse steps.
