Fatal drunk driving crash under investigation in Portage County

TOWN OF LANARK, Wis. (WSAU) - Portage County deputies say one man is dead following a Sunday morning drunk driving crash.

51-year-old Daniel Wetzel died after a car driven by 23-year-old Hannah Schacht struck his car while he was pulling out of the driveway. The crash sent the car into the ditch where a tree struck the driver's side door. Wetzel died from his injuries. His 31-year-old son Richard was transported to the hospital.

Investigation by deputies showed that Schacht had been operating her car while under the influence. Three other people inside her car were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured in the crash.

Schacht is under arrest awaiting charges. Alcohol and speed are said to be factors in the crash.
