NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WSAU) - The Highground Veterans Memorial Park near Neillsville will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first, and most compelling veterans tribute called “Fragments”, on September 14th starting at 12:00 Noon. Tom Miller is the man who originally founded The Highground to honor veterans of the Vietnam War. Miller says, “I guess it all started back in 1965, the 18th of December, when we were caught in an ambush and my partner died. I more or less thought it’s sad that he goes but we can’t let his death be so unimportant, so let’s do something.” According to Miller, “Fragments,” is the first tribute to Vietnam War veterans in the United States that honors women as well as men. The names of all 1,244 Wisconsin service members killed or missing in action in Vietnam will be read at the anniversary observance, followed by remarks from Highground founder Tom Miller.
