Morris competency issue not settled, another doctor evaluation requested

by

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The man accused of attacking two Marathon County corrections officers wants a second opinion about his competency to stand trial.

21-year-old Fredrick Morris was before Judge Michael Moran Thursday. He has already entered pleas of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Moran was to decide Morris’ ability to understand and participate in his own defense Thursday morning, but the request for another doctor’s opinion has delayed that decision.

Corrections officers Julie Christensen and Denney Woodward were injured in the March 27th incident when Morris refused to return to his cell. Christensen suffered a fractured skull and is still recovering from injuries.

Morris remains in jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
