"Birds in Art" show promises more graphic, less color this year

WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) - A world-famous art show in Wausau will be less colorful -- and more graphic -- than in the past.

The annual "Birds in Art" show will open Saturday at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.

This year, seven artists will display their pencil and graphite wildlife works in black and white.

The museum's Amy Beck says the images appear to be photographs at first -- and the black and white depictions offer more visual depth and drama than works with bright colors. Beck says the colors can often distract a viewer from a work's finer points.

The "Birds in Art" display features over 100 recent original paintings, graphic works, and sculptures from artists throughout the world. The display continues until November 10th.
