Former owner of duct taped dog free on bond

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The Stratford man accused of mistreating his dog by wrapping it in duct tape was in court Thursday. 46-year-old David Butler is free on a 15-hundred dollar signature bond for misdemeanor charges of mistreating an animal and obstructing an officer.

Judge Greg Huber also placed conditions on Butler’s bond, including no pets, absolute sobriety, and not to enter bars, taverns, liquor stores or beer tents.

Butler will be back in court September 19th for a pretrial conference. If this case isn’t settled before trial, the jury trial would start October 22nd. If found guilty, he could get up to eighteen months in jail and $20,000 in fines.

Paco the dog is no longer at Butler’s home, and was given to an unnamed family friend. The picture of Paco wrapped in tape was posted on Facebook on about July 27th.
