Marshfield Transitional Shelter builders target opening by Christmas

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) - A new Marshfield transitional shelter for families with children should be ready to welcome its first residents by Christmas. That’s according to Dennis Boucher from St. Vincent de Paul in Marshfield, who is coordinating the project. Boucher says, there currently are no shelters for families with children in Marshfield, and that “We would hope that we’re going to be done or open before Christmas. That would make it nice for families to be in there.”

The mission of the shelter is to provide temporary housing and assistance to persons on the road back to self-sufficiency. Boucher says that the shelter is, “there to help them for at least six to eight months, to help them get back on their feet to where they can get back into the community.”Habitat for Humanity is supplying much of the labor on the project with many of the building supplies being donated by area businesses.

With exterior work wrapping up soon, Boucher says he’s very optimistic about having the shelter open by Christmas.
