MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - A northwoods State Senator admits his proposal to standardize rules for sand mining needs additional work. Senator Tom Tiffany proposed legislation that would take away many local government options to control mining, including the ability to make haulers pay for local road damage.
Local government leaders including Wood County Board Chairman Lance Pliml have raised several objections. Tiffany admits those issues need to be addressed.
Tiffany chairs the Senate Mining Committee. He’s not sure if the proposal will be taken up by that committee yet this year. Over in the Assembly, Speaker Robin Vos has already said his chamber will not vote on this yet this fall.
