BOWLER, Wis. (WSAU) - Head out to the North Star Casino in Bowler this weekend for the annual WDEZ Oktoberfest Dance.
The host is Polka King Jeff Heinz, who says the festival has grown over the years. "Well I started it 26 years ago, just to bring a band in and to promote polka music, and it turned out that it got bigger and bigger."
Heinz says he's got a great lineup this year. "Five until midnight on Saturday we've got the Boys from Baltimore Maryland, and also Lenny Zielinski and the D-Street Band from Chicago. Sunday is Noon to Six, and we've got the Boys again and then the Polish Connection from Mosinee, and they do a great job."
This is also the same weekend as Disco Cures Cancer, but Heinz says he's not too worried about the two events crashing into one another. "It's a Friday, Saturday Sunday thing. Disco is Friday, and my polka thing is Saturday and Sunday. If they want to wear their disco clothes to my polka fest they're more than welcome to it."
You can pick up tickets for the show at the Midwest Communications offices in Wausau or Plover, at the Wausau Music Center, or at Crossroads County Market in Wausau.
