Wausau West class gets $10,000 grant to build snow shoveling robot

WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) - A Wausau West class will be getting $10,000 from MIT and the Lemelson Foundation to create a snow shovelling robot.

The grant is part of the nationwide InvenTeam program from the Lemelson group which supports the inventor's spirit in the school system. Wausau West is one of 15 schools getting the prize this year.

“The inventions that this year’s teams have undertaken focus heavily on improving the safety and wellbeing of those in their communities. I feel optimistic that the students are seeing issues affecting others around them, and responding quickly with original and useful ideas to technically solve problems,” said Leigh Estabrooks, invention education officer for the Lemelson-MIT Program.

The InvenTeam project has a class spend a school year putting together a solution to a real world problem and showing it off at the end of the year. The class will get to go to MIT in Cambridge in June as part of the annual EurekaFest Celebration.
