No new judge or out of county jury for accused drunk driver

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - A man accused of driving drunk and causing the deaths of two women riding with him will not get a new judge or a jury from elsewhere in Wisconsin.  That was the decision of Portage County Judge Thomas Eagon Friday.

22-year-old Tim Saavedra entered not guilty pleas to charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, reckless homicide, and causing injury while intoxicated. He was the driver of a pickup that crashed July 20th on Gumz Road.

Emergency responders found Saavedra and passenger 21-year-old Lee Hogan alive, and two women dead. They were 21-year-olds Melissa Peterson-Suzda and Stephanie Eberhardt.

Saavedra is scheduled for a pretrial conference November 15th. He remains free until then on a $50,000 cash bond.
